The Chicago-area residence that gained pop culture immortality as the residence of the “Home Alone” family officially has new owners.

Mansion Global reports the sale of the 9,126-square-foot Georgian red brick house in Winnetka, Illinois, was closed yesterday for $5.5 million, slightly above the $5.25 million asking price. The home was listed for sale last May and secured a buyer within a week on the market, although finalizing the sale took more than seven months.

“There was an agreement that the sellers would love the opportunity to remain in the home for one more holiday season,” said Lori Nieman of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate, who represented the unnamed buyers.

The property was built in 1921 and features five bedrooms, six baths and a seven-seat screening room. The house last changed hands in 2012 for $1.58 million. The outgoing owners, Tim and Trisha Johnson, enacted renovations in much of the house in 2018, although they opted to retain the famous exterior and the central staircase where young Macaulay Culkin went sledding in the beloved 1990 film.
