A district court judge has issued a temporary injunction preventing the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from terminating 78 Fair Housing Initiative Program (FHIP) grants for nonprofit organizations contracting to investigate housing discrimination.
Judge Richard G. Stearns, a Clinton administration appointee on the US District Court in the District of Massachusetts, ruled in favor of three nonprofits that sued HUD over the cancellation of approximately $30 million in grant funding. Lila Miller, a lawyer at Relman Colfax, the firm representing the nonprofits, argued the funds termination was illegal because the grants were allotted by Congress. Miller also claimed the termination of the funding was the result of input by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which had no authority to coordinate HUD’s policies.
Lisa Rice, President and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance, welcomed the court’s ruling.
“The action DOGE directed is endangering everyday people while empowering wealthy landlords and others to discriminate,” Rice said. “Fair housing organizations are on the front lines of efforts to combat housing discrimination through enforcement of the Fair Housing Act. Without their efforts, survivors of sexual harassment in housing; veterans with disabilities requiring accessible housing; and people of color seeking to buy a home free of racial harassment, and families with children would have no protection or anywhere to turn to uphold the law.”
HUD did not offer an immediate comment on the ruling.
We need to get rid of these judges! DOGE is doing what we asked!
I love Doge besides most non profits are run by psychiatrist whom are total criminals and complete enemies to all of mankind and psychologists who are also enemies to mankind.
They are the correct reason we have so many homeless people and drug addicts and alcoholics that never get better… a real sewer system! Go Doge Go! Research has it pegged that 79% homeless were under the care of psychiatrist/psychologist!! Plus my friends brother works at a psychiatric facility and he told me they throw people out of the facility for good at 3 am dump them on the street!!
Nnobody
These judges are the last line of defense for the ultra-corrupt deep state.
Agree!!
As Real Estate professionals we need to do everything in our power to protect anyone with the ability and desire to own a home in the United States of America.
I don’t agree. They’re giving 3 1/2% loans with lenient and everything else to illegal aliens and that’s not fair to the American people when we have to put 20% down and jump through hoops. It’s just not OK.
And all of these lawsuits that they keep using our taxpayer money is infuriating especially when they keep getting overturned. It’s a waste of our tax money time everything.
Please quote your sources. I’m interested.
I would LOVE to know where you get your info. American people don’t have to put 20% down. I’ve been in real estate for 26 years in lending, selling and escrow services, and I have done plenty of mortgages and sold plenty of houses to folk for no money down or 1% down or 3% down. The money can be granted through down payment assistance or gifted from other family members. It is really quite easy for an American to buy a home.
Undocumented folk don’t get preferential treatment or have different standards for obtaining financing. Most undocumented folk couldn’t afford a home because they work for less than minimum wage much of the time and are much more concerned with trying to eat and feed their families. Most of them wouldn’t even think they could buy a home here. They are trying to live and find ways to become documented. That process is super expensive and time consuming.
Fair Housing protects American citizens who are discriminated against in the system. People that need advocacy and extra attention to ensure they are on a level playing field. It is extremely important that we continue to hold the housing industry accountable to fair practices.
They need to eliminate all of these programs. They’re withholding tons of inventory all over the country.
will if the grants/funds/money are not going to where the program intends, and therefore not honoring the program, then grants may need
to be eliminated. You not do not send your phone bill amount to your personal savings account, do you? If so, then the stewardship of your finance needs to be in more capable hands to make sure your phone bill gets paid. If that is not the case, then you would take our documentation to the courts to confirm you did send your phone payment to your phone company and did not deposit into your savings. And all is well and you will be more diligent in the future.
Doge is not doing what is best for anyone except their own pockets. These programs were not created so that “illegal immigrants” could buy houses.. I’m not sure where people are getting their information from. As a Real Estate Broker, I see first hand how these programs help homeownership become attainable for tons of people/families. As for the 20% down, that is one of the many programs you can utilize, however, 3.5% down is a standard FHA loan program that is available to EVERYONE. I think it’s time for people to start researching FACTS and stop listening to BS. Taking away these programs will completely cripple our housing market and homeownership for the average American will cease to exist. For those of you supporting this because you “think” it is keeping “illegals” from utilizing the programs.. take a long hard look at how it will affect you as well.
As much as I hate to admit it, IF those funds were specifically autherized by congress to go to those programs, no matter how wasteful, fraudulent, or abusive these programs are, it would take congressional action to rescind them. However, as usual, the devil is in the details. How specific is the law? Do funds go to these programs specifically? Do these programs have to meet certain standards to qualify? Etc., etc., etc.; unfortunately we don’t get enough information to make that determination, so here we are arguing over the politics and optics of it.
