The City of Philadelphia’s Department of Records has jettisoned its longtime paper-based process of reporting deed fraud with a new digital online system.
Up until now, Philadelphia residents filing reports of deed fraud had to fill out a paper form by hand either mail it or bring it to City Hall. The new digital system enables fraud reporting on a 24/7 basis from any device with Internet access.
The department added that its staff will still be able to meet with residents in person to resolve complicated cases.
“Fighting deed fraud helps preserve existing homeownership in Philadelphia,” said the department on its website. “Quick reporting and investigation help keep families in their rightful homes…Rather than forcing people to adapt to outdated processes, the city is adapting to meet residents’ needs.”
