A New Jersey woman has been indicted for destruction of records after she destroyed her husband’s cell phone that was being sought by federal agents investigating a real estate fraud case.
Jennifer Iturralde Pina’s husband, Cesar Humberto Pina (also known as Flipping NJ) was charged in October 2023 with wire fraud in connection with an alleged real estate investment fraud scheme. According to the charges against her, Iturralde knew about the investigation and in February 2024 she asked a friend to coerce a witness to stop cooperating with federal investigators. Days later, Iturralde attempted to give her cell phone to that same friend for safekeeping, but that friend was unable to take the cell phone from her.
On March 5, 2024, as federal investigators knocked on Iturralde’s door with a warrant to seize and search her cell phone, she destroyed and tried to hide the device. She was previously charged by complaint and had made her initial appearance in Newark federal court last November.
The charge of destruction of records carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, or twice the gross amount of any pecuniary gain that any persons derived from the offense, or twice the gross amount of any pecuniary loss sustained by any victims of the offense, whichever is greatest.
