Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox announced his administration has stopped an attempted land acquisition near Provo Airport by Cirrus Aircraft, a company that is majority-owned by the defense contractor Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).
A 2023 Utah law prevents restricted foreign entities from purchasing land in the state. According to a statement from Cox’s office, AVIC appears on multiple federal watchlists and is prohibited from receiving from federal contracts based on security concerns. Although Cirrus Aircraft proposed a multimillion-dollar investment with the pledge to create hundreds of jobs, the deal was halted when AVIC’s ownership stake became known.
“This isn’t just about one deal,” said Cox. “It’s about protecting strategic land and ensuring foreign adversaries cannot gain a foothold in our state. Other states might have let this slip through the cracks. Utah didn’t, and won’t.”
Cox also pointed out Chinese government restrictions on religious worship, including the closure of Latter-day Saint congregations in Beijing, as further evidence that the Chinese Communist Party does not share American values.
“Utah’s story is rooted in the fight for religious liberty,” Cox said. “We will always stand for the right to worship freely and reject any attempt—foreign or domestic—to silence that right through coercion or pressure.”

We are not built on Communism. We fought against communism in WWII; our soldiers died for or freedom and fought to save many other countries from communism.
How dare anyone think of coming here – taking our away private property, taxing the white people higher…and more. Let his supporters and him move to a communist country and do not let them back. (of course, the rich boy does not intend to live group housing, giving up his money….what a hypocrite. He of course with keep all he has. It is sickening to hear people praise him!!!
Need to figure how to shut this guy down! He should not be an example for our inexperienced younger generation nor an r answer to New Yorks low income
housing needs.
He and his family came to our country as refugees and this is his Thanks! Certainly enjoys his freedoms but wants to stake away everyone else. Remember right now he looks like a sweetheart. He will not be a sweetheart once in office.

While I am happy that Utah blocked this land purchase by a Chinese owned entity, I find it annoying that Gov. Spencer Cox cites anti-religious actions by China as one reason for blocking that sale. I do understand his point, to a point, but it’s not complete.
Cox says this:
“We (Utah) will always stand for the right to worship freely and reject any attempt—foreign OR Domestic—to silence that RIGHT through Coercion or Pressure.”
Oh really? The election results in Utah do NOT bear that out, at all!
Utah has supported Trump and MAGA, a party that dances on an ANTI-freedom to think and an ANTI-choose for yourself platform, while supporting MAGA/Trump/GOP policies to aggressively silence, coerce, pressure, threaten, extort, intimidate, and even outlaw open discussions about wide ranging topics and various viewpoints, including nationwide efforts to ban books and repeated attempts to force teaching “the Bible” in schools and forced posting of the 10 Commandments in schools and at government institutions, and no other religious viewpoints to be allowed, and certainly NOT atheist viewpoints.
Trump/MAGA/GOP are going after Universities too, even private Uni’s, threatening them if they say or teach anything that MAGA feels is “against their (Trumpian) viewpoints”, or shall I say “Heritage Foundation” viewpoints (aka mega corporate and Billionaire viewpoints and Evangelical Christian viewpoints only).
MAGA and Trump have worked tirelessly to end, even forbid, classes in critical thinking, logic, and other school courses (like how to spot and resist propaganda) that are designed to help people make informed decisions based on facts and evidence and on open comparisons of various value systems, including various belief systems.
Blocking classes that help people to analyze effectively makes for weak minds and allows deception and lies and mind control to influence people in huge ways, to make them believe things they would, otherwise, NOT believe, or would, at least, question a lot more.
Nearly every district in Utah voted for Trump and this censorship, hate and intimidation based GOP.
That is NOT supporting Freedom. It’s supporting an authoritarian dictatorship.
