A news report is claiming the Trump administration’s attempt to bring a mortgage fraud indictment against one of its most vocal critics, Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), has stalled due to a perceived lack of viable evidence needed to bring the case to trial.

MSNBC, sourcing its coverage from three unnamed “people familiar with the matter,” is reporting that Maryland US Attorney Kelly Hayes informed Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche that her investigation of Schiff did not locate strong enough evidence to secure a grand jury indictment.

However, the case is not being dropped because Ed Martin, who serves as director of the Weaponization Working Group for the Department of Justice, is pressing Hayes to continue with her investigation. Last month, President Trump posted an open message to Attorney General Pam Bondi demanding that her agency bring indictments against Schiff and two other enemies, former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James – the latter two were separately indicted by federal grand juries in Virginia. But in those cases, the indictments only came after Interim US Attorney for the Eastern District in Virginia, Erik Siebert, resigned after insisting there was insufficient evidence to proceed with those cases; Lindsey Halligan, who was appointed by Trump as his replacement, secured the indictments.

Trump accused Schiff of mortgage fraud in a July posting on Truth Social, claiming, “In a posting on Truth Social, Trump stated Schiff listed a property in Maryland as his primary residence so he could achieve more favorable mortgage financing terms.

“I have always suspected Shifty Adam Schiff was a scam artist. And now I learn that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division have concluded that Adam Schiff has engaged in a sustained pattern of possible Mortgage Fraud. Adam Schiff said that his primary residence was in MARYLAND to get a cheaper mortgage and rip off America, when he must LIVE in CALIFORNIA because he was a Congressman from CALIFORNIA. I always knew Adam Schiff was a Crook. The FRAUD began with the refinance of his Maryland property on February 6, 2009, and continued through multiple transactions until the Maryland property was correctly designated as a second home on October 13, 2020. Mortgage Fraud is very serious, and CROOKED Adam Schiff (now a Senator) needs to be brought to justice.”

Schiff has repeatedly denied the accusations against him.
