The UK government has frozen the assets of a fugitive Chinese national who acquired up to $108 million worth of London-based real estate.
According to the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, the initial March 24 announcement from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) only identified the individual as “Mr. X.” It has since been determined that he is Su Jiangbo, who is wanted by Chinese law enforcement for running an illegal casino in his country.
Su used a “golden passport” issued by the Caribbean nation of St. Kitts and Nevis to create UK companies that acquired at least 85 residential properties between September 2023 and June 2025. St. Kitts and Nevis sells passports for around $270,000, which enables holders to enjoy access to more than 150 countries without a visa. Su is also a citizen of Cambodia.
“The orders were granted against a Chinese national and associated UK companies, suspected of using money that has been illicitly obtained to purchase properties,” the CPS said in a statement, adding there was an “ongoing civil recovery investigation into whether they were purchased with the proceeds of unlawful conduct.”
Su will have three months to prove that the money used in his property acquisition was lawfully obtained, or else he risks having the properties seized. He has not been charged or convicted of any criminal activity within the U.K.
