Florida’s Burgess Island, a 104-acre private island estate based in Pine Island Sound between Sarasota and Naples, has been listed for sale at $89 million.
The property features a luxury residence built in 1928 that features 11 bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms and three half bathrooms. Amenities include a pool, private 9-hole golf course, sports courts for basketball, tennis and pickleball, and four separate docks. The island is also home to four guest cottages, a property manager’s cottage, a clubhouse, and a helipad.
The island was acquired and developed in 1924 by inventor and electrochemist Charles Frederick Burgess, a pioneer in dry-cell battery technology who hosted notable visitors including Thomas Edison. Tampa Bay Creative Loafing reports the property last changed hands in 2015 when it was acquired by multi-level marketing executive and ItWorks founder Mark Pentecost for $14.5 million.
The property listing declares the island “presents an extraordinary opportunity for a singular private family compound, a corporate retreat, or an exclusive development, with its 29 developable lots.”
