Hedge fund executive Ken Griffin has secured the final parcel that allows him to proceed with the full-block site for his company’s future downtown Miami headquarters.

The Miami Herald reports that city commissioners approved a no-bid sale of the historic 121-year-old cottage that was the home of Dr. James Jackson, the city’s first physician. The cottage was added to the National Register of Historic Sites in 1975 and has been occupied by the Dade Heritage Trust since 1978.

Griffin has agreed to relocate the cottage from its current site in the Brickell section of Miami to another parcel in Coconut Grove. Since 2022, Jackson has quietly spent more than $700 million to acquire the properties on the block around the cottage for the development of a $2.5 billion corporate campus featuring a 54-story tower that will become the new global headquarters for his Citadel and Citadel Securities. The campus will also include a 300-unit multifamily housing complex, a 1,420-space parking garage, and possibly a hotel.
