The announcement by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that they are returning to the UK created surprise on both sides of the Atlantic. However, the royal couple are not planning to sell their California home to settle permanently in the UK.
Harry and Meghan came to California in 2020 after stepping down from their royal duties, purchasing a home in Montecito for $14.6 million. TMZ, citing unnamed “sources familiar with the situation,” reports the couple and their two young children are viewing their UK relocation as a “temporary” arrangement. Although their children are being enrolled at a London-area school, the couple reportedly love their California home and the circle of friends they’ve built in that area.
The TMZ story contradicts a report from April that insisted Harry and Meghan were looking to move to Los Angeles. That report claimed Meghan was tired of the commute between from Montecito, which is in Santa Barbara County, into Los Angeles, coupled with “the fact that their neighbors continue to trash-talk them.”
The report also contradicts a New York Post story that declared an unnamed “source in the Santa Barbara luxury real estate market” stated there “have been rumblings” the couple will sell the property, adding that “every broker wants that listing.”
