Blue Owl Capital (NYSE: OWL), an alternative asset management firm headquartered in New York City, is reportedly planning to launch a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on data centers.

According to a Bloomberg report sourced from unnamed “people familiar with the matter,” the REIT will be seeded with roughly about $6.5 billion of the company’s data center assets. Blue Owl will raise money through an initial public offering and additional share sales to acquire data centers and expand the portfolio.

The company’s data center assets include a recently closed digital infrastructure fund with $7 billion of commitments. Blue Owl has more than $319 billion of assets under management across credit, real assets and strategic capital.

The Bloomberg report comes at a time when annual global data center capital expenditure is forecast to grow from $421 billion in 2025 to more than $1.2 trillion by 2028.
