Alabama recorded 6,214 home sales in April, a 7.3% year-over-year increase from one year earlier.

According to data from the Alabama Association of Realtors (AAR), there were 20,928 active listing at the end of last month, up 9.3% from April 2025. The average days on market fell to 59 days.

April’s median home price of $263,518 marked a 15.2% year-over-year upswing. However, foreclosure activity increased 5% from March and 39.8% year-over-year.

AAR economist Evan Moore observed, “Home sales in Alabama increased in April, both month-over-month and year-over-year, signaling continued strength in the state’s housing market as the spring buying season progresses. At the same time, inventory continues to improve, giving buyers more options while maintaining healthy price appreciation for homeowners.”

“Consumer confidence indicators remain mixed, and some of April’s increase in activity may reflect pent-up demand following a slower first quarter,” Moore added. “Even so, Alabama’s housing market continues to demonstrate resilience, supported by steady job growth, improving inventory conditions, and sustained buyer demand.”
