Shoppers in the Big Apple will soon be able to spend less for their apples – the Aldi discount supermarket chain is planning to open its first store in Manhattan.
Supermarket News reports the 25,000-square-foot store will be on 42nd Street near Times Square in The Ellery, a 32-story residential rental complex now under development. The store is scheduled to open in 2026.
The discount grocer signed a lease with Taconic Partners and National Real Estate Advisors for its new store, which is part of the chain’s plan to open 800 new locations across the US by the end of 2028.
“Opening our first store in the heart of Manhattan will be a significant milestone for Aldi as we continue to expand,” said Chris Daniels, regional vice president for Aldi.
