A Connecticut developer and builder who was facing multiple criminal charges abruptly passed away before he was set to go to trial.

William Ferrigno dies of a heart attack on Feb. 6 at the age of 73. Ferrigno operated Sunlight Construction and was a past president of the Homebuilders and Remodelers Association of Connecticut.

WFSB reports Ferrigno was arrested in 2023 after it was discovered he signed contracts to build new homes for clients and pocketed the clients’ deposits but never built the homes. He was facing four counts of larceny and seven counts of violating new home construction requirements; he had also been the subject of more than 30 lawsuits filed in civil court.

Ferrigno’s criminal trial was slated to begin on March 11. Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said Ferrigno’s death “doesn’t change our investigation and our efforts to hold them accountable. Obviously, this is a horrible situation for the people that have been cheated and bought homes that were never delivered. As far as we’re concerned, we are going to keep at it.”
