The Denver mansion that is considered one of the most important historic sites in the legalized marijuana movement has been listed for sale at $2.3 million.
The Denver Business Journal reported the Creswell Mansion, a landmarked site built in 1889 as the residence for a prominent local businessman, was the Colorado headquarters of the Marijuana Policy Project, which orchestrated the movement that culminated in Amendment 64, the 2012 referendum that legalized recreational marijuana use in the state. The Colorado vote, along with a similar referendum in Washington State the same year, marked the first time that recreational legalization of marijuana was approved by voters.
The 4,200-square-foot sandstone building, which is nicknamed “Marijuana Mansion” and “MJ Mansion,” was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and is now used as a private event venue. It last changed hands in 2019 for roughly $1.2 million and is currently owned by an LLC connected to Best Properties, a Florida-based investment firm.
The property sale also includes an adjacent structure which is currently leased to the Grant Street Green Dragon Dispensary.
