The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) announced death of its former President and CEO David H. Stevens at the age of 66.
Stevens served as the trade group’s leader from 2011 until 2018. He was previously Assistant Secretary of Housing – Federal Housing Commissioner at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Obama administration. He began his career in real estate and mortgage finance at World Savings went on to leadership roles at Freddie Mac, Wells Fargo, and Long & Foster.
After he retired from MBA, Stevens was CEO of Mountain Lake Consulting, a financial services consulting firm focused on the real estate finance sector, and served on the board of Dynex Capital. He also wrote commentary on housing policy and real estate issues, and also shared his personal fight against cancer on social media.
“The real estate finance community mourns the loss today of one of its great leaders and fiercest advocates,” said MBA’s President & CEO Bob Broeksmit, adding Stevens will be “remembered as a great mentor, boss, and friend.”
Mr. Stevens was an inspiring leader when he was affiliated with Long & Foster, and was highly regarded by Wes Foster personally. Cancer is such a horrible enemy – my prayers for his family.
“Cancer is such a horrible enemy”
Yes, Indeed. Most of us have lost love ones and many wonderful people to this horrible disease.
I believe that he was a fighter for the industry and quite often used facts to provide his stance in an effort to educate instead of screaming. I would say some of his best work and fodder was during this current administrations mistakes and recklessness with deliberately trying to kill the US economy.
He called it early and I think everyone agreed.
Rest in peace David and please pray of us.
Adding your partisan political opinions to our friend’s death announcement is uncalled for and in very poor taste.
Great loss to all of us in the real estate profession. Prayers for his family and all who knew him.
Dave Stevens was a real estate hero to me! He taught so much to me and my fellow Compass agents. I am heartbroken at his passing. Rest in peace friend.
