Minneapolis’ historic Lumber Exchange building is being sold in a $1 transaction.
Twin Cities Business reports the 12-story, 225,569-square-foot property is being acquired by Kristi Oman, owner of Space Unlimited, a Minneapolis real estate company focused on restoring historic buildings.
The official sales price for the transaction will be $20,001 – the $1 sales price plus the $20,000 fee needed to remove the property from auction. Oman stated she might turn the property into a center for artists and fashion designers.
The Lumber Exchange Building dates to 1885 and was the first skyscraper in Minneapolis. It the oldest building outside of New York City with 12 or more floors and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
