The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has published a new series of consumer resources designed to help realtors educate homebuyers and sellers to the post Sitzer/Burnett settlement practices.
The new series consists of six installments available in English and Spanish that address issues including the need for a written buyer agreement, open houses and written agreements, NAR’s Code of Ethics, what veterans need to consider when buying a home, and the process and options available for offering compensation to a buyer’s agent. The series is now available on the NAR website.
“At the heart of what we do as realtors – who abide by a strict code of ethics – is protect and promote the interests of our clients,” said NAR President Kevin Sears. “We are committed to making the process of buying or selling a home as transparent and seamless as possible for clients, and this new series of guides provides an exceptionally clear roadmap for the process of working with an agent who is a realtor.”
I wonder if one of the series is about how NAR threw the real estate industry under the bus to save themselves money
yes and we still have to pay the egregious dues!
The sad thing about this whole thing is that NAR did not protect us as realtors, but still expect us to be members and pay ridiculous dues. They also used incompetent attorneys who had no clue what they were doing to represent us. The big brokerage firms are paying dearly for their part in helping to create this mess. It’s called GREED and GREED never wins.
Most real estate MLS companies have over $1 Million in reserves. They are fat cows living off the interest for expenses
Go in and vote for changes if they expect fees to go up. Less realtors means less of their employees to provide you services. Must are automated anyway.
Our Tampa Bay Florida MLS publishes annual financial reports.
Been in the business 45 Years, the “leadership” just thru all of it’s members under the bus. Talked to several other long time Brokers/Agents, and not ONE has has a client sign off on the 8 page “Exclusive” buyer agreement willing to pay a commission for services. This is a program that has been tried in the past and never worked. Thanks to inept people at the top, the Realtor association is about to lose 75% of it’s membership. Why should we haul around a potential buyer for up to a month and NOT BE PAID once the transaction reaches closing.
I’m not upset about having buyer agreements in place. The thing I think is stupid and causing alot of issues is not using our MLS as a platform for buyer agent compensation
It should not be mandatory that we join NAR. We have a local association, a state association and MLS how many people have their hands in the put they just made harder for us to fill.
