New York Attorney General Letitia James has been subpoenaed by the US Attorney’s Office in Albany as part of a grand jury probe into her $454 million civil fraud case against President Trump.
James, who first campaigned for office in 2018 vowing to make Trump a target for prosecution, brought the civil case in 2022 against the Trump Organization alleging that it inflated the value of its portfolio to gain more favorable loan terms. Trump, who was out of the presidency when the case was filed, was found guilty at trial; the case is currently on appeal.
The New York Post, culling its coverage from an “unnamed source familiar with the investigation,” reports the grand jury was convened in May by Northern District of New York Acting US Attorney John Sarcone working in coordination with the FBI to launch an investigation into James in May. James also received a second subpoena dealing with a probe by her office into the National Rifle Association.
A spokesperson for James issued a statement that said, “Any weaponization of the justice system should disturb every American. We stand strongly behind our successful litigation against the Trump Organization and the National Rifle Association, and we will continue to stand up for New Yorkers’ rights.”
The subpoenas are not related to an ongoing probe of by the Department of Justice into alleged mortgage fraud tied to properties she owns in Virginia and New York.
