A private Connecticut island owned by the same family for more than a century has sold for $26.5 million, down from its original listing price of $35 million.

Mansion Global reports the 18-acre Hay’s Island includes an 8,684-square-foot, six-bedroom mansion built in 2010, along with a two-bedroom cottage and a pool house. The island is linked by a causeway to the affluent town of Darien, Connecticut.

The island’s seller is Cynthia Ziegler, is a descendant of William Ziegler, a founder of the Royal Baking Powder Company in the late 19th century; the buyer was not identified. Ziegler listed the island in March, and it is the latest offloading of her family’s properties – in 2023 she sold the 61-acre Great Island for $85 million and a 51-acre farm for $57.5 million.
