COPT Defense Properties (NYSE: CDP), a Columbia, Maryland-based self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on properties in locations near or containing U.S. government defense installations and missions, has announced the election of Robert L. Denton Sr. as chairman of its board of trustees.
Denton has served as an independent trustee of the company since 1999 and is currently the chairman of the nominating and corporate governance committee. He succeeds Thomas F. Brady, who stepped down on Dec. 31 but remains on the board.
Denton retired from The Shidler Group in 2013, where he had been a managing partner in New York City since 1994 and was responsible for the implementation of the group’s new investment vehicles in the finance, real estate and insurance sectors. Prior to that, he was a co-founder and managing director of Providence Capital Inc., an investment banking firm.
“Rob’s wealth of experience in real estate, finance, management consulting, and corporate strategy, makes him the ideal trustee to lead our board and provide sound and steady oversight and guidance in our capital allocation and financing decisions,” said Stephen E. Budorick, president and CEO of COPT Defense. “While at The Shidler Group, Rob was a co-founder of several real estate firms, which became publicly listed REITs, including both our company and First Industrial Realty Trust. Rob’s successful track record as a real estate investor in both public and private investment vehicles has always been rooted in enhancing shareholder value.”
