Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has pushed back at President Donald Trump’s statement that the lawmaker engaged in mortgage fraud by claiming the allegations were raised to divert attention from the growing controversy regarding the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
“Since I led his first impeachment, Trump has repeatedly called for me to be arrested for treason,” said Schiff on his X page. “So in a way, I guess this is a bit of a letdown. And this baseless attempt at political retribution won’t stop me from holding him accountable. Not by a long shot.”
Schiff added, “This is just Donald Trump’s latest attempt at political retaliation against his perceived enemies. So it is not a surprise, only how weak this false allegation turns out to be. And much as Trump may hope, this smear will not distract from his Epstein files problem.”
Trump declared on Truth Social that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division determined the California senator “has engaged in a sustained pattern” of potential mortgage fraud when he cited a Maryland property as his primary residence while he was serving in the House of Representatives. The president added that Schiff was a “scam artist” who “needs to be brought to justice.”
While there was no mention of a Schiff investigation on the Fannie Mae website, Trump’s assertion was affirmed by Bill Pulte, who is both Fannie Mae’s chairman and director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency
“President Trump’s Truth Post this morning is accurate as Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division concluded that Mr. Schiff has engaged in a sustained pattern of possible Mortgage Fraud,” said Pulte on his personal X page. However, Pulte did not echo Trump’s demand for Schiff’s prosecution.

no distraction… Adam Schiff needs to go to jail… no joke
But a convicted felon can be President?
I’m not an Adam Schiff fan whatsoever! Mortgage fraud on primary residence location happened more often than most would know. My lending interactions goes back to 1982 and end in 2023. The verification process in the loan process is questionable and usually hinges on the customers own designation. That said Fannie & Freddie in the recent past usually allows a “2nd home” scenario to act as a primary residence and thus the applicant gets top tier financing rates and/or points. A 3rd home usually gets a higher rate. Maybe Schiff’s Maryland home was actually his 3rd home so it could be mortgage fraud. I’m retired with 40 years as a broker and 37 years as an appraiser so I used and worked with local and national lenders and this was my experience. I’d like to hear form mortgage brokers or lenders and/or current Realtors what their take is and if I am or am not making valid statements here.
Total b.s. distractions from the Epstein pedo topic! This is a habitual game played by the felon in chief.
