The fate of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act has been put on hold as the US Senate adjourned yesterday for a 10-day recess.
The bill was initially passed by the Senate and then sent to the House of Representatives, which earlier this week approved the legislation with a major change – the removal of a provision requiring institutional investors that own build-to-rent housing sell their properties within seven years of construction. The bill was sent back to the Senate, though it was uncertain whether the House-altered version would be approved.
The housing bill is one of several contentious pieces of legislation being left unresolved by the Senate. Also on hold is a Republican-backed reconciliation package to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, the SAVE America Act calling for photo identification to be presented at election polling locations, and the question of whether taxpayer funding should be used to finance the construction of a new East Wing at the White House.
