Privately-owned housing starts in February were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.50 million This is 11.2% above the revised January estimate of 1.35 million, but it is also 2.9% below the February 2024 rate of 1.54 million.
Single-family authorizations in February were at a rate of 992,000, a mild 0.2% decline from the revised January figure of 994,000. Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in February were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.45 million, which is 1.2% below the revised January rate of 1.47 million and 6.8% below the February 2024 rate of 1.56 million.
Single-family housing completions in February were at a rate of 1.06 million, a 7.1% uptick from the revised January rate of 995,000. Privately-owned housing completions in February were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.59 million, a 4% drop from the revised January estimate of 1.65 million and 6.2% below the February 2024 rate of 1.69 million.
