Home sellers are a highly tolerant group – to the point of being willing to work with real estate agents with sketchy backgrounds and dubious behavior.
According to a survey conducted by Clever Real Estate, 58% of sellers said they were willing to work with agents even if they were inexperienced with selling properties, while 53% said they would work with agents who lack experience in the local market.
Even agents whose behavior is not entirely professional are forgiven by many sellers. The survey found 51% of sellers would work with agents who refuse to provide references, 49% would stick with agents making unrealistic promises for sales results, and 45% would look beyond inappropriate comments or jokes by crass agents.
Perhaps more amazingly, 44% of sellers said they would work with agents that have violent criminal record and 30% would continue working with agents if they had a history of stealing from clients.
Still, sellers aren’t entirely Pollyannish about their agents. The survey found 91% of sellers planned to use an agent, but just 70% admitted they trusted them.
The survey was culled from a February poll of 1,000 Americans who planned to move in the next 12 months.
