President Trump has ignored criticism of his appointment of Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence and stated he will assume the new job earlier than previously announced.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said Pulte will assume the intelligence chief duties on June 19. Previously, it was stated he would succeed Tulsi Gabbard after her resignation went into effect on June 30. Trump repeated that Pulte will continue as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Trump’s announcement appeared to contradict a statement by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) that the White House was “weighing seriously” a long-term nominee to replace Pulte as a full-time director of national intelligence. However, The Hill reported that Thune was not in direct communication with the White House, but instead he admitted he was “in contact with somebody over there who cares a lot about this.”
