The $43 million sale of a 31.5-acre waterfront estate on Martha’s Vineyard has set a new record for the most expensive property sale in Massachusetts.
The Wall Street Journal reports the sale came at a discount – Boston-based tech entrepreneur and investor Michael Bonner initially listed the property in June at $49 million. Bonner paid more than $19 million to assemble the site between 2019 and 2013; his buyer was not identified.
Located in the exclusive Edgartown enclave of Herring Creek Farm, the property features a 6,500-square-foot main residence built in the 1970s and extensively renovated earlier in this decade, along with a two-bedroom guesthouse and several cottages. It is located along Edgartown Great Pond, an 890-acre body of water separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a narrow strip of sand. It has a private path to the beach.
Herring Creek Farm has roughly a dozen homes, and one of the residents is former talk show host David Letterman. In 2001, Letterman teamed with his neighbor Roger Bamford, a former principal engineer at Oracle, on a $64 million purchase of more than 200 acres adjacent to the Bronner property, which is being preserved from development through the local nature conservancy.
