A five-story penthouse unit in a historic Fifth Avenue building sold for $135 million, making it the most expensive residential property sale in New York City this year.

Mansion Global reports the 12,500-square-foot unit is one of 22 residences located above the Aman New York hotel in the historic Crown Building in Manhattan. The penthouse is based within the building’s tapered crown-like pinnacle and was sold in unfinished form. The buyer was not identified and the transaction was facilitated by the in-house brokerage of OKO Group, the real estate development firm owned by Russian billionaire Vladislav Doronin.

The newly announced sale tops the $115 million duplex deal transacted last month at Central Park Tower to become the city’s priciest sale to date for 2024. Last February, a full-floor condominium apartment in the Crown Building sold for $61.58 million.

“The $135 million sale of the Penthouse at Aman New York underscores the desirability and appeal of Aman and the iconic Crown Building,” said an OKO Group spokesperson. “We continue to entertain significant demand for Aman New York’s residences, even as the building’s units are fully committed.”
