Plans were unveiled today for a 14,500-seat stadium that will host Denver’s new NWSL franchise.

ESPN reports the stadium will be based at the city’s Sante Fe Yards, adjacent to the Broadway Light Rail station, and the development will include a 3.5-acre park and a mixed-use development. The stadium is being developed in conjunction with architectural firm Populous and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2028.

The Denver team, which has yet to be formally named, is the NWSL’s 16th franchise and is scheduled to start next year. Announcements regarding a temporary stadium for the team and the creation of a training facility are expected to be made later this month. Rob Cohen, controlling owner of the new team, did not disclose the financial aspects of the stadium deal, including whether the venue will be leased from the city or owned by the team.

“We’re still working out the exact details of all of that, but suffice it to say, the conversation that we’ve been having with the city is that it is the ownership group’s intent that we will pay for and build the stadium,” Cohen said.

NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman released a statement that said, “This announcement is a game-changer for the NWSL and a bold statement about where women’s sports are headed. Santa Fe Yards will set a new standard for what professional athletes deserve – a purpose-built stadium and entertainment district that reflects the passion of this city and our league’s continued growth.”
