An American real estate developer was shot to death on Friday at his luxury project in Belize.
Boris Mannsfeld, 56, was found dead from a gunshot to the back of his neck at the Cocoplum Villas in Maya Beach with his personal belongings intact, including his wallet containing cash and a loaded firearm in a holster. Mannsfeld worked as a licensed real estate agent in Colorado for more than decade before moving to Belize in 2006, where he established the development firm Boris Mannsfeld & Associates Belize Real Estate.
While no suspects have yet to be identified and arrested. In an email written by Mannsfeld last month, he described a high-profile fraud case involving stolen assets, money laundering, and the deaths of two of his associates. Channel 5 Belize reports the email included a claim by Mannsfeld that he “securely stored important evidence and shared it with trusted individuals, instructing them to release all files – such as names, bank details, receipts, messages, and passwords – to major news outlets and US lawmakers if anything were to happen to him.”
How incredibly sad he was executed. Not to sound unempathetic, but it will be interesting to see the details of his evidence come to light. RIP.
This is so sad. I think it’s important to remember that operating in a country other than the United States puts you in a whole different world. Other countries have different rules and sometimes they’re not published.
