A regional Arizona realtors group has launched a campaign to help protect local homeowners against deed fraud.
The Tucson Association of Realtors has rolled out Protect Your Title, which encourages property owners to enroll in Fraud Notify, a free service from the Pima County Recorder. The service monitors property records regularly to ensure everything is accurate and immediately alerts owners if there is a suspicious activity involving the deed to their property.
At the moment, roughly 2% of Pima County properties are enrolled in Fraud Notify. The new website created for this campaign, ProtectYourTitle.org, directs owners to the service’s enrollment page, which only requires a few minutes to complete.
The realtors are teaming with the Pima County Assessor’s Office and Stewart Title on this endeavor.
“You can do everything right and still lose your property to a forged signature,” said Romeo Arrieta, CEO of the Tucson Association of Realtors. “There is no hotline that undoes a fraudulent deed. The remedy is years of litigation to prove you own what was already yours. Enrolling in the county’s free alert system takes two steps and a few minutes. We want every property owner in Pima County enrolled.”
