The verdant coastal region of Valparaíso, in central Chile, is extraordinarily diverse, with mountains and beaches, bustling cities and peaceful seaside resort towns.

Zapallar, just 45 miles from the city of Valparaíso and a two-hour drive from Chile’s capital, Santiago, “has plenty of beautiful beaches, forests and natural trekking areas,” said Eduardo Díaz de Valdés, license partner of Engel & Völkers Zapallar. “Good weather, a wide gastronomic offer focused on quality seafood and a variety of entertainment activities … make Zapallar a very appealing place to live.”
Price Range
For those who choose to purchase a home in this beautiful region, the luxury villas and unspoilt beaches of Zapallar beckon. The town is “the most exclusive and high-end destination in Chile,” said Folke Bergström, office manager at Chile Sotheby’s International Realty in Zapallar, adding that it also boasts a selection of the country’s most spectacular homes. “The price for these luxury properties goes from US$2 million up to US$15 million,” he said, adding that a beneficial exchange rate means that U.S. buyers currently get more for their money in the exclusive resort town. It’s common to find luxury homes marketed in U.S. dollars or a non-circulating unit called Unidad de Fomento (UF) that’s meant to simplify real-estate prices.
Property prices vary depending on location, with large villas offering stunning views over the bay and out to sea commanding the highest prices, Mr. de Valdés said.
