Chicago Bears President Kevin Warren is giving Illinois lawmakers more time to formulate a legislative solution that would keep the football team from relocating to Indiana.
In an interview with NBC Sports, Warren stated, “We don’t have a set deadline, but I am confident that sometime this spring/summer, we’ll know. I mean, we have to know because we would have completed the due diligence in Indiana and we’ll see what happens in Illinois.”
Indiana lawmakers passed a bill last month to create the framework enabling the team to move across the state line and into a domed stadium to be built in the city of Hammond, which is less than a half-hour drive from the team’s Soldier Field home.
The team and the state have been unable to resolve differences relating to property taxes and public funding for a potential stadium in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights. Capital News Illinois noted the Illinois legislature’s session concludes on May 31, but to date there has been no progress on creating a solution that appeases both the state and the team.
