The Cleveland Browns held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for their new $2.4 billion Huntington Bank Field, which is slated to be the team’s future home starting in the 2029 season.
Located in the Cleveland suburb of Brook Park, Ohio, the 67,500-venue is situated next to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The Browns will be departing from Huntington Bank Field (originally Cleveland Browns Stadium), which has been their home since 1999. The new venue will continue to carry the Huntington Bank Field name.
The team’s owners, Haslam Sports Group (HSG), conducted the groundbreaking ceremony along with AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction Company and the sports architecture firm HKS. However, ESPN reports the public funding for the new stadium has yet to be secured. Ohio’s pledge of $600 million is on hold pending a class-action lawsuit that claimed the state improperly allocated money from its Unclaimed Funds Account for the project. Futhermore, the city of Brook Park has not signed off on its planned $245 million input.
