Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, has introduced a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management within its School of Computing & Engineering.
According to the school, the new program is aligned with the American Council for Construction and will combine engineering principles, business strategy, and applied field experience. Students in the program will focus on project safety, estimating, cost control, scheduling, contracts, risk management, sustainability, and digital construction technologies.
The program will aim for small class sizes and personalized faculty mentorship, and the school will require that students pursuing this degree carry a minor in business.
“Construction management offers graduates strong job prospects, competitive salaries, and opportunities to work on projects that have a lasting impact on their communities,” said Kevin Bowlyn, the construction management program director. “Construction management is the process of planning, coordinating, and overseeing a construction project from concept to completion. Construction managers are the leaders who bring together everyone involved in a project, including architects, engineers, contractors, and clients, to ensure the project is completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with the design specifications.”
