Costco Wholesale Corp. (NASDAQ: COST) announced plans to open its first standalone gas station that is not connected to one of its retail outlets.

According to combined media reports, the new station will be based in the Los Angeles suburb of Mission Viejo. The project will be based at the site of a former Bed Bath & Beyond store that will be demolished, with a 40-pump station to be built starting this fall for an opening next spring.

The new station will only be accessible to Costco members and will not have a convenience store on its grounds. Costco currently has more than 700 gas stations globally, and last December it teamed with Electrify America to provide new electric vehicle charging stations at five Costco Wholesale locations.
