The former Detroit-area home of Walter Reuther, the longtime president of the United Auto Workers (UAW), has been listed for sale at $1.45 million.

The Detroit Free Press reports the 2-acre Oakland Township, Michigan-based estate features two homes – a 2,400-square-foot primary residence dating back to 1912 and a 1,500-square-foot guest house – along with nearly 1,000 feet of frontage along Paint Creek. The grounds feature a private swimming hole, a fruit orchard, an organic garden with 12 cedar raised beds, a koi pond, firepit gathering areas and a Japanese arboretum.

Reuther, who was elected UAW president in 1946, purchased the parcel in 1951 and moved into the location full-time in 1953. He lived there with his wife May until their deaths in a 1970 airplane crash. The Reuther family sold the property in 1973, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The property last changed hands in 2021 for $1.1 million.
