A Frank Lloyd Wright house outside of Chicago has been listed for the first time since 1976 for $779,000.

According to Robb Report coverage, the Prairie-Style cottage known as the Warren Hickox House in Kankakee, Illinois, is on a roughly half-acre property. The two-story home was built in 1900 as the residence of a local real estate executive and spans 3,277 square feet, with four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. Wright also designed the B. Harley Bradley House located next door, which is now a Wright-focused museum.

“The building shares much in common with its larger neighbor,” said the Frank Lloyd Trust webpage for the listed property. “Finished in plaster and dark wood trim, the house features flared roof ridges evocative of Japanese architecture. Despite the relatively small scale of the residence, Wright created a sense of both interior and exterior expansiveness through his use of a modified cruciform plan and his manipulation of architectural space, form, and details.”

The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on Jan. 3, 1978. The relatively low price for a Wright-design home could be attributed to the interior – the Robb Report noted that the “kitchen dates to about 1958 and, like the rest of the house, will benefit from conscientious restoration and upgrading by a preservation-minded owner.”
