An anonymous donor has provided funds to Kansas’ Wichita Habitat for Humanity for the creation of an affordable housing development named in honor of Pope Leo XIV.
KMUW reports “Pope Leo Village” will consist of eight rehabilitated homes in northeast Wichita. The project is budgeted at $300,000 and work is slated to begin later this summer.
“We like to say that we are putting God’s love into action,” said Danielle Johnson, executive director of Wichita Habitat for Humanity. “That action really is bringing folks together on the job site to build homes, build connectivity, build community and really do tangible work around affordable housing solutions.”
Johnson did not disclose to donation amount, but stated the anonymous philanthropist wanted to celebrate Pope Leo as the first American-born pope.
“So being able to showcase support to him as he’s kind of sharing his message, that’s something really beautiful,” Johnson said.
