Vice President Kamala Harris has begun an advertising campaign to highlight her pledge to build 3 million new homes over four years if she is elected president.
The Associated Press reported the Democratic presidential nominee’s campaign is now airing a minute-long advertisement with Harris recalling how she grew up in rental housing while her mother saved for a decade to afford a home purchase. The advertisement is now on Harris’ X (formerly Twitter) page and is being broadcast in swing states including Arizona and Nevada. The campaign is also planning “housing affordability” events in several swing states, although the details of those events have yet to be announced.
“Vice President Harris knows we need to do more to address our housing crisis and that’s why she has a plan to end the housing shortage,” said Dan Kanninen, the campaign’s battleground states director, adding a Harris presidency will crack down on “corporate landlords and Wall Street banks hiking up rents and housing costs.”
Housing has been a thorny issue for the Harris campaign, with home prices reaching record highs and affordable homeownership opportunities have dwindled during the Biden-Harris administration. Harris has not offered a specific budget on how much it would cost to build 3 million new homes or where these properties would be based. She has also yet to identify the “corporate landlords and Wall Street banks” that she would target, nor has she explained why none of these entities were prosecuting during the past three-and-a-half years while she was vice president.

Well. I think there needs to be some clarification. We already build 1,500,000 new homes a year so that equals 6,000,000 homes during any Presidents term. Is she insinuating we will be building 9,000,000 homes during her potential term? Or, will she take credit for the 6,000,000 that will naturally come without any intervention from her administration. No Presidential candidate has ever provided the nitty, gritty details of projects they propose. Obviously, they need to be in office 1st to assign a committee to work on it, and get it passed through Congress. Heck, trump still hasn’t provided details of his health care plan, which ~8 years ago he promised to “release in a couple weeks” nor explained how Mexico would pay for his wall. Likewise, the current GOP & Trump Agendas don’t explain how they intend to “strengthen the industrial base” (which is already happening under Biden), “reduce inflation”, how they will support “large tax cuts”, etc.

Assuming a VERY conservative average price across the country of $300,000 per new house to be constructed (if we’re talking about single-family homes), the cost for 3 million of them will be $900,000,000,000. That’s $900 BILLION dollars. It will never happen.

Government housing so far has a dismal record of outcomes, especially in Socialist and Communist regimes. The subjects will not own anything. So the question remains as to whether the intent relates to increasing private ownership of housing or planning to abolish single-family private ownership.

Are the new homes for US taxpayers or illegal immigrates?
I figure there are three ways she can come up with the money for this plan. 1) The taxpayers. Raise taxes and take the money from the American citizens who pay taxes. 2) Print more money or borrow it and just raise the deficit even more. 3) Reallocate that money from other budgets that have a surplus. Use money that’s earmarked for something unproductive now and move it to another budget. Numbers 1 and 2 are by far the most likely options, which means inflation remains a problem and citizens have less money to spend in their towns supporting their local economies. Option 3 will never happen because that would be responsible spending of our hard earned tax money. She doesn’t understand what’s causing the problem so this “solution” will just create even more. Why can’t we have politicians who ask people in the industry for suggestions?
