The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has cancelled $4 million in contracts that were designed to foster Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs within the agency.

In an interview this morning on Fox News, HUD Secretary Scott Turner stated the contracts “were supposed to be for cultural transformation and outward mindset thinking, and subscription services.” Turner said the money saved from the terminated DEI contracts “should go to serve the American people,” adding “DEI here at HUD is dead.”

Since taking office, Turner has welcomed the staff from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to his agency, reporting the new DOGE task force has already generated $260 million in savings while locating $1.9 billion in misplaced funds.

“Those funds were supposed to be used for administrative services that help us carry out the services here at HUD,” Turner continued. “And when you don’t use those funds, they don’t just go to the next year. You’re supposed to notify the Department of Treasury that these funds are now available for other federal expenditures. And that did not happen. It was great mismanagement and negligence over the past few years from the Biden administration.”
