The Iowa Association of Realtors (IAR), in partnership with the Realtors Relief Foundation (RRF), is offering financial assistance to displaced individuals who were severely impacted in last month’s tornadoes.

On April 26, more than 300 residences and buildings were damaged during severe storms and 24 tornadoes that barreled through the state. The National Association of Realtors’ RFF awarded IAR a $150,000 grant to help Iowa residents with mortgage payment or rental assistance of up $1,500 per household.

The grant recipients must be primary residents of Clarke, Crawford, Harrison, Mills, Polk, Ringgold, Shelby, Union, and Pottawattamie counties. IAR noted the assistance is for housing relief only – this encompasses monthly mortgage expenses for the primary residence that was damaged during the severe storms, rental costs due to storm displacement and reimbursement for hotels lodging required due to primary residence damage.

Other expenses including second mortgages and damages to automobiles and personal belongings are ineligible for reimbursement under this program. The relief grants are contingent upon the availability of funds and will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
