Lynn Beckstead, a former president of Salt Lake City-based SecurityNational Mortgage, a subsidiary of Security National Financial Corporation (NASDAQ: SNFCA), passed away on Aug. 12 at the age of 72.
Born Jack Lynn Beckstead Jr., he grew up in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School in 1972. He served on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Hong Kong from 1973 to 1975. Upon returning home, he earned two degrees from LDS Business College.
In 1993, the insurance company Security National recruited Beckstead to launch a new mortgage division. In a statement, the company recalled, “Known as Employee 001, Lynn was there at the beginning, helping lay the foundation for the company and the people we are today. His leadership, dedication, and years of service left a lasting mark on SecurityNational Mortgage and on the many people who had the privilege of working alongside him.”
Beckstead also served on the Security National board of directors and was a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Residential Board of Governors. He retired from the company at the end 2015.
Beckstead is survived by his wife, Karen; his five daughters, and 19 grandchildren.
