Arizona’s Maricopa County took the number one ranking in the newly published list of top U.S. markets for luxury second homes published by the real estate marketplace Pacaso.

“The county’s vibrant desert cities of Phoenix and Scottsdale offer world-class golf, chef-driven restaurants, countless hiking trails, and exciting entertainment options, making it a popular vacation destination,” said Pacaso’s announcement, which noted the average price for a second home in that market was $679,000, up 0.8% from one year earlier.

Horry County, South Carolina, was the second most popular location for second homes, with an average value of $375,000 that represented a 7.9% year-over-year upswing. Pacaso explained that “Myrtle Beach’s 60 miles of stunning sandy beaches, exciting attractions, and celebrity-designed golf courses make it a beloved vacation destination.”

Florida’s Lee County, Delaware’s Sussex County and Florida’s Collier County rounded out the top five markets on the Pacaso list. Cape May County in New Jersey ranked 15th but topped the list for the highest price of second home real estate of the counties with the most second home transactions in 2023, with an average value of $989,000.
