Maryland’s Real Property Search system is back online after being shutdown following reports of suspicious activity on state servers.

The Maryland Department of Information Technology first detected an issue on April 14, which led to the shutdown of the State Department of Assessments and Taxation’s (SDAT) Real Property Search website to contain potential threats.

An early DoIT determined that the only affected systems contained publicly available information that was already accessible through the Real Property Search tool. Maryland Matters reports the system is up and running again, enabling users to view the names of the owners of any property, various characteristics of the property and its sale history.

SDAT spokesperson Alyssa Nolte said the systems was offline for two weeks because state officials “needed time to analyze the affected servers and remediate any issues that could compromise the system again or make it unsafe for public use.”

No details were provided on who might have been responsible for the breach.
