Maryland’s Real Property Search system has been taken offline following reports of suspicious activity on state servers.
BayNet.com reports the Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) first detected an issue on April 14, which led to the shutdown of the State Department of Assessments and Taxation’s Real Property Search website to contain potential threats.
An early DoIT determined that the only affected systems contained publicly available information that was already accessible through the Real Property Search tool. Officials do not anticipate a broader cybersecurity risk but did not provide a timeline on when the system will resume operations.
The shutdown impacts residents, businesses, and real estate professionals seeking to access property records, ownership information, and assessment data in Maryland. Individuals seeking property information are being asked to contact their local Real Property Assessment office. The state is also warning residents to avoid third-party websites and unofficial links claiming to provide property records.
