The Mortgage Bankers Association’s Opens Doors Foundation announced that it has provided mortgage and rental payment assistance to 20,000 families since its founding in 2011.
Opens Doors provides housing relief grants of up to $2,000 a month to families with critically ill children. To date, it has distributed more than $31 million in housing assistance and expanding its network to 14 children’s hospital partners across nine states and the District of Columbia. The Foundation works with social workers at each of its network hospitals to identify families with critically ill or injured children who are most in need of mortgage and rental assistance.
“Opens Doors has now delivered mortgage and rental assistance to more than 20,000 families – a milestone we are deeply proud of,” said Debra W. Still, former vice chairwoman of Pulte Financial and chairwoman of the MBA Opens Doors Foundation. “This achievement reflects the unwavering commitment of the real estate finance industry to a simple but powerful goal: ensuring that families caring for critically ill or injured children can remain stably housed during their most difficult moments. Because of this sustained support, thousands of families have been able to focus on their children’s care, not the fear of losing their home – and that is the real measure of impact.”
