Gail Liniger, who co-founded the Denver-based global real estate franchise REMAX with her husband Dave Liniger in 1973, has passed away at the age of 81.
She was born Gail Main in St. Louis in 1945 and graduated with a marketing degree from the University of Southern Illinois. She moved to Denver in 1971 and teamed with Dave Liniger to create REMAX two years later. The couple married 11 years after the company was founded.
Within a year of its launch, REMAX had 42 sales associates. In 1975, the company established its first franchise outside of Colorado.
Over the years as the company expanded, she took on the roles of executive vice president in 1978, and president in 1979. She survived a near-fatal airplane crash in 1983 and took on the roles of CEO and vice chairman in 1991. She stepped back from day-to-day operations in 2018 and retired from the company’s board of directors in 2023.
The Linigers also co-founded The Wildlife Experience, a 100,000-square-foot conservation and community center in Denver.
“Gail was my partner in every sense of the word,” said Dave Liniger. “She was crucial to the success of REMAX, and in many ways was the steady force behind everything we built.”
