The retailer Spirit Halloween is seeking to expand its pop-up retail operations beyond Oct. 31 with a pilot program offering new Spirit Christmas pop-up stores.
Bisnow.com reports the company is planning to operate 10 Spirit Christmas stores in the Northeast with four in New Jersey, three in New York, and one in each of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. The stores will be based in both former Spirit Halloween locations and new units.
Spirit Halloween opened a record 1,525 stores this year that operated under temporary leases ranging from August through November. While Halloween spending is expecting to generate $11.6 billion this year, the National Retail Federation estimated that consumer spending on Christmas is nearly 80 times higher than the late-October spookfest.
“Spirit Christmas is a new concept for us, and we’re hopeful it will resonate with our customers,” said a Spirit Halloween spokesperson. “Our goal is to create a festive retail experience that captures the spirit of the season, much like we do for Halloween.”
The first Spirit Christmas store is scheduled to open on Oct. 18 in Mays Landing, New Jersey, with the other stores opening in November.
