A new survey of Americans working from home has found one in four remote employees who must now return to an office no longer live near their place of employment and must either move or seek a new job.
The survey of 2,370 employees at companies enforcing return to work (RTO) policies found 19% of remote workers have already moved back to comply with RTO mandates, while 60% plan to relocate. But 21% of workers have no plans to move, with 40% of that group instead choosing to find a new job.
Among the relocating workers, 56% attempted to secure a different job before moving, but most failed to secure a lucrative job offer. As for those returning to the office, 51% expected a sharp increase in their cost of living, 43% anticipated paying higher rent or mortgage payments, 30% said they will need to downsize, and 69% said they either rented or plan to rent a storage unit.
The survey was commissioned by StorageUnits.com and conducted online via Pollfish in January
